February

It’s an amazing morning in San Francisco. I enjoy listening to the lap of the water and watching the boats go by. I’m wearing a light jacket, soaking up the sun. It’s hard to believe it’s February!

Lemons, Day 1

The lemons on the backyard tree are all ripening, so I put a call out to friends for recipes. I’m off school this week, so I want to take advantage of the time to try some new recipes.

Day #1: Lemon Bars – sssoooooo good!

Field Trips

It’s been a month full of field trips. Most recently, on Saturday, I took a group of 6 students to the California Academy of Sciences, and then to SFSU for a marine science scrimmage. I can’t remember the last time I laughed so much. The octopus was an especial hit.

New Year’s Eve

I’ve spent the last few days sleeping, trying to kick a cold that got hold of me while I was in Quebec for Christmas. Today (Dec 31) was the first day that I didn’t feel sluggishly sick, so I celebrated by installing a new kitchen sink. I’ve been wanting a double bowl sink forever, so when the drain on my old sink started leaking, it was all the excuse I needed. A friend drove me to Urban Ore, a local store where you can get house items used. I found the perfect sink for just $45! The installation was a bit of an adventure, especially with hardware stores closing early today, but I did it! It was very satisfying. I’m already really enjoying my New Year sink!

Lizard

I’m so excited – I brought home some crickets for my lizard today, and he’s eating them! I’ve been realy worried about him. I brought him home for Thanksgiving break, and he quickly got pretty nonresponsive. I kept giving him meal worms, which he normally eats quickly, but he didn’t seem to eat any of them. It’s been two weeks, and he seems to be losing weight. So today I decided to change it up and get him some crickets again. Success! I’m so relieved.

Great night at Cirque du Soleil (Totem) with friends. The acrobatics were amazing and the music was beautiful!

Field Trips

I’ve taken students on five field trips in the last two weeks. It’s exhausting, but so rewarding. Today (Saturday) we went to a beautiful area in Marin, to a marine laboratory where we got a tour and then did a scrimmage against other schools – buzzing in to answer questions for points. We had a great time, and the students were inspired by the challenge of the scrimmage.
